Last month, we attended the baby shower of our friend in San Francisco. It turned out to be a great get-together with our friends who came from different locations for the surprise baby shower we all had planned! The soon-to-be-father had made a baby registry, but I skipped it to surprise both parents with my own baby shower gifts.
As a fairly new mom, I learnt a lot of “do’s and dont’s” from my friends and some from my own experiences. So I built a list of baby things I loved for my daughter in her first year, and used that as the shopping guide for the baby shower gifts:
Baby Shower Gifts List
- Pura Kiki feeding bottles
- Munchkin Bottle Drying Rack
- Babyganics Diapers
- Baby Socks
- Baby Washcloths
- Gift Basket
- Baby book
- Plush Turtle Toy
- Baby Dress
I am in absolute love with these bottles. They come in such nice colors, are lightweight, unbreakable, easy to warm the milk in and the best thing – no plastic/BPA. So I got 2 5oz bottles and 1 11oz bottle for them to try.
One thing which the new parents need to get used to besides breastfeeding and diaper changes is washing the feeding bottles. Once you have washed or sterilized the bottles, you need a place to dry them. I found this rack really handy as it holds a lot without occupying much space. Easy to clean and foldable for storage.
Actually I did not know that environment friendly disposable diapers existed before I went for shopping to Target. I heard good reviews about them, and thought that they are worth trying. And now that I know, it is time to switch my daughter’s diapers too.
These tiny little things keeps your baby warm and cozy in the tender initial stage. Since my friends were having a baby girl, I selected a set with appropriate colors and prints.
You cannot get enough of them. You need it for the drool, the milk, baby bath or oh well, any other mess!
I wanted a basket to put together the diaper babies, and I found just the right one at Target. This could convert to diaper or wipes holder for their diaper changing station.
It is never too early to start reading to your baby. I like the “Bubbles Bubbles” book from Sesame Beginnings which I got from Dollar store.
The gift basket is incomplete without a snuggly and softy plush toy or blanket. So I got this set of turtle blanket and plush from Costco.
I assumed that the soon-to-be-parents will receive lot of pretty dresses for the little one. So I bought a pair of leggings with a top ‘Beauty in Bloom’ for their everyday use. It was not dressy, but was still so cute and perfect for my stylish friend’s daughter!
Diaper Babies Gift Presentation
Once my shopping was done, it was time to make it presentable. So using the diapers, rubber bands, baby socks, baby washcloths and black marker we made these adorable diaper babies. Actually Vinay made them, as he is the swaddle master! 😉
Here are the quick and easy directions for you:
- Roll the diapers tightly and secure using a rubber band.
- Pull a baby sock at one end of the diaper. This will act as the baby’s warm cap.
- Swaddle and cover the other end of the diaper by using a baby washcloth, just how you would swaddle a baby.
- Finally use the black marker or stickers or googly eyes to make the eyes of the baby.
I made 4-5 diaper babies and placed them in the basket. Since the basket was deep, I used some diapers and the dress set to act as fillers and raise the bed of basket. I placed the babies on front side of the basket. They were supported by feeding bottles from the back side, which looked like little babies too, with their caps on. Whatever items were left out, I placed them in a separate gift bag to give along with this cute little gift basket. Everyone loved these diaper babies. In fact, the would-be parents did not even want to remove them from the basket 🙂
Are you planning to attend a baby shower too? Will you be making these diaper babies?
