Kissing Winter Good Bye with Faux Fur Coat

Hello friends! I have been away for a while now from the social media and my dear “Fancier’s World”. It was a much needed break as we went back to India after almost 6 years and it was Akira’s first trip back home. But I did miss writing and catching up with you all. Hope you missed me too! I will be talking more about my India trip pretty soon. For this post I am writing about my fur coat outfit.

Yes! A fur coat in spring. It was not even a day when we landed back in Denver, when a snowfall welcomed us in the spring. That is actually not uncommon for Colorado and April is actually one of the wettest months. So I cannot be yet packing up my winter clothes. But there sure seems to be signs of spring with the greener grass, the perennials blooming, the leaves about to shoot out and most importantly temperatures rising! Hopefully we do not get too big storms and I can kiss the winter good bye with this fur coat. πŸ™‚

I am usually very skeptical about wearing complete faux fur coats, as they look bulky and can look cheap if the material is not right or if not styled properly. But I love this coat from Zara as it is nice and soft to touch and has a nice color combination. Also I like the length of this coat which is more of a jacket, so I can pair it easily with skirts and pants.

TIP: When wearing a bulky coat/jacket, highlight it by keeping the rest of the outfit simple in terms of color, print or volume.

When you wear a fur coat, it overpowers all the other pieces. So instead of fighting with it I tried to highlight it with matching camel or tan colors. Since the coat adds bulk to my outfit, I decided to wear lycra and jersey knit for rest of my outfit to keep it simple. I love the fabric that can stretch and is body hugging, as it looks flattering for most of the body types. The basic white sweater and jersey flounce skirt do exactly that for me.

TIP: Use materials like jersey knit or lycra to reduce the volume of the dress and get a slimming effect.

And yes this cute little pom pom hat to complete this outfit.

I agree that most faux fur coats look cheesy. Yours. however passes for a nice rabbit coat — at least in the pictures. I am a real fur person, as I support responsible fur farmers and retailers, but mostly buy good quality pre-worn furs. My wife’s and my count now maybe totals 12 or 13 real furs, with her having an additional 3-4 faux coats (Though clearly not as sexy.)

Oddly enough, just today I ordered what was described as a fluffy faux fox jacket for myself for just $37 on eBay.

    Hey Richa,

Love the outfit. You paired the coat well with tan elements. I have not tried fur yet as I feel it is too bulky for petite women, like me. But I think I should give a try. And am so waiting for spring to actually begin, we have a snow storm tomorrow…argh. Happy weekend love.

Hi Veena! You should try it for the next fall-winter season. Too late to try it now, but with a snow storm coming who knows. πŸ˜€
Stay warm and thank you for stopping by.
    Have a lovely weekend!

This fur coat is so damn cute on you Richa! Unfortunately Atlanta never gets that cold so I haven’t really given fur a try! But hopefully I will the next winter ? It’s such a fun piece to add to your wardrobe! That skirt is a perfect pairing with the coat. I hope you had a great trip back home, 6years sure is a long time! πŸ™‚
